Living Curiously Lifestyle First 5 Steps

Are you curious? What’s the point, purpose and mission of The Living Curiously Lifestyle?

If you knew that there was a very specific method to tap into and unleash the greatest power of curiosity in order to:

  • Think more insightfully
  • Judge more compassionately
  • Live a life less ordinary

…would it be something you’d consider?

If you learned that this way of thinking is directly related to the science of influence, critical thinking, judgment, and decision-making would you be intrigued or sort of bored? What if I promised there would be adventure, cocktails and coffee…and riches?

because you will be among the first to learn The Living Curiously Method. This is the only specific, step-by-step and proven method to overcome idea stagnation, viewpoint stagnation, and life stagnation. It’s a reprogramming sequence (without the electrodes) that continuously challenges you, enhances your adventures, and allows you to find the mystique in the mundane.

It gets you unstuck.

This is critical if you:

Hold a burning desire to share your knowledge and talents in order to have a tremendous impact in business, philanthropic endeavors, or global issues. You want your success to be a result of helping others succeed (including your own friends and family)

Have enjoyed major success contributing to your organization and want to be a lead character in the next generation of success stories.

Absolutely must design and create your own bigger, more meaningful business, adventures and life…and you’re ready to experience richness in every sense of the word.

Skeptical? Good, as history proves, skepticism is curiosity’s snarky, lovable sibling. Stick around and see if your curiosity can be aroused. Before the Living Curiously Method launches in 2015, you’ll want to be ready and here are 5 steps that will begin to prepare you (and maybe even change your life).

5 steps to be prepare yourself to tap the greatest power of curiosity:
1. Begin to elevate curiosity ahead of criticism.

This is the most important step. It is not typically the default ordering of the adult human brain. It takes work, but if you accept that The Tribe of the Curious is your tribe, this reordering will become a part of your life. It is very different than just not being critical. Being critical gets a bad rap, but it’s one half of one of the most important skills–critical thinking. This is a reordering, a switch, a swap that requires elevating curiosity before judgment. This applies as much to assessing a business decision as it does to assessing a friend’s behavior. It can sometimes be annoying but it will always be powerful. Try it.

2. Practice removing the rhetorical.

Often when we are confronted with ridiculous situations or requests, we say things like, “How could we ever? Why should we? Why should I? How can I?” These are rhetorical questions because we say them in jest with a sidewinder smirk on our faces. We’re not really looking for answers. Start asking these questions with every expectation of great answers. Remove the rhetorical. See what powerful insights emerge.

3. Consider the preposterous to solve the impossible.

When you are stuck with a business or life challenge, start by asking, “What if?” and follow it with playful, ridiculous solutions that might get you unstuck from your current condition but potentially stuck in another. Be curious enough to consider these preposterous solutions even when they may not be realistic. These considerations will often get you unstuck in profound ways.

4. Create a system to learn from your mistakes.

Environments where people are afraid to admit their mistakes are fertile for repeating them. Do you think it’s better to be wrong with the crowd or right alone? Are you more likely to be promoted or are people more likely to believe your message if you’re wrong with the crowd or right alone? How do you evaluate your mistakes in a way that minimizes the chances of repeating them? Do you have a specific method? Consider using Post-It Notes or don’t. Not that we ever make mistakes, but for hypothetical reasons I’d love it if you shared your mistake-catching creation with the Tribe of the Curious. Hint: The Living Curiously Method includes one.

5. Attack your assumptions.

If poking yourself to provoke yourself in order to begin to question your own assumptions seems painful and harsh to you, that’s okay, you can use a feather. If it sounds scary, just consider giving it a try. Say, “What if I’m wrong?” Try it out loud or in the mirror for advanced levels of attack. This will provide a way to keep your cognitive biases in check. We all secretly suffer from these biases and they effect our ability to make good decisions.

Do you know the difference between an extraordinary life and a less ordinary life? They are very different. An extraordinary life is a whole lot of ordinary–it’s an extra dose of ordinary and that’s a wonderful recipe for a lot of people. Less ordinary is less common because it’s for non-conformists, adventure-seekers, brave grey-area divers. That’s not most people. Is it you? If so, take these first 5 steps and you will really start to live a life less ordinary.

With the data and information reigning down on us like never before, curiosity is no longer much of a luxury or a diversion. Curiosity and knowing how to use it is as ridiculously critical as it is fun. That’s why I’m beyond excited about the book, The Living Curiously Method, that will launch in  2015. Workbooks, manifestos, assortments of curiosities, challenges, and amazing adventures will follow.
